TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:
VIENNA, W.Va. -- The 2017 River States Conference Softball Tournament will be May 5-6 at Darrell Dotson Sports Complex at Jackson Park in Vienna, W.Va. The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will have the champion automatically qualify for the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round as one of the conference's two automatic bids to nationals.
The Darrell Dotson Sports Complex at Jackson Park is located at 634 Jackson Park Drive, Vienna, W.Va. 26105. The River States Conference and the City of Vienna welcomes all fans, teams, players and community members for an exciting weekend of RSC softball!
Admission is $5 for an all-day pass on Friday and Saturday. Concessions will be available at reasonable prices. No coolers are permitted by fans, please. Dogs are allowed but with a leash and with proper waste disposal.
The tournament features a total of 10 games on Friday, May 5 and at least four more games on Saturday, May 6 for the semifinals and finals. The first pitch of the tournament is Friday at 10 a.m., and the championship round begins on Saturday at 3 p.m. There will be two fields in operation all day Friday and during the first two games on Saturday.
The tournnament gets started on Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. with No. 1 seed University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (41-7, 17-1 RSC) playing No. 8 seed Carlow (Pa.) University (16-16-1, 5-13 RSC). Rio Grande, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, is already is guaranteed an NAIA bid as the RSC regular-season champion.
No. 4 seed Point Park (Pa.) University (20-19, 11-7 RSC) faces No. 5 WVU Tech (14-35, 10-8 RSC) in the other game that will take place at 10 a.m. The winner will face the Rio Grande-Carlow winner in at 4:30 p.m., and the losers will sqaure off in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m.
No. 2 Midway (Ky.) University (26-16, 12-6 RSC) heads the bottom half of the bracket, which begins first-round play at 12 p.m. The Eagles play No. 7 Brescia (Ky.) University (14-21, 8-10 RSC) in the first round.
No. 3 IU Southeast (24-19, 12-6 RSC) meets No. 6 Cincinnati Christian (18-16, 8-10 RSC) in the other 12 p.m. matchup. The winner will play the Midway-Brescia winner at 4:30 p.m., and the losers will meet in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m.
Friday's action concludes with the second round of the loser's bracket at 6:30 p.m. There will be four teams left at the conclusion of Day 1. For the complete bracket, click the link above.
