CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- The 2017 River States Conference Baseball Tournament is set for May 5-9 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. The six-team double-elimination tournament will have the champion automatically qualify for the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.
VA Memorial Stadium is the home venue of the Chillicothe Paints, a member of the collegiate wood bat league, The Prospect League, and an organization that is celebrating its 25th year of existence. The RSC welcomes all fans, teams, players and community members to Chillicothe, Ohio, for an exciting week of River States Conference baseball.
Admission Price on a daily pass is $7.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and $3.00 youth under the age of 12. More information about VA Memorial Stadium, indcluding driving directions, visit ChillicothePaints.com.
The tournament begins with three games on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The same time schedule follows for Saturday, May 6 and for Monday, May 8 with three games per day. The championship round is Tuesday, May 9 starting at 11 a.m. with a second championship game if necessary at 3 p.m. The tournament has an off day on Sunday, May 7.
No. 1 seed Point Park (Pa.) University (35-17, 26-6 RSC) plays the first game of the tournament on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. versus No. 6 seed Brescia (Ky.) University (13-35, 9-23 RSC). The Pioneers and Bearcats just completed a series in Pittsburgh this past weekend with Point Park taking a four-game sweep to clinch the No. 1 seed.
No. 2 seed IU Southeast (42-11, 25-7 RSC) squares off versus No. 5 seed WVU Tech (28-26, 18-12 RSC) in the second game of tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. The Grenadiers, ranked No. 25 in the NAIA, split the season series with the Golden Bears this year.
No. 3 seed University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (33-17-1, 24-7-1 RSC) completes the first day of action versus No. 4 Midway (Ky.) University (24-27, 20-12 RSC) on Friday at 7 p.m. The RedStorm won the season series over the Eagles, 3-1, after winning the first three games.
