FLORENCE, Ky. -- Kyle Wright of Indiana University East has been named the River States Conference Sports Information Director of the Year 2016-17. Wright was selected after a vote of the conference's athletic directors and sports information directors.

Wright, who has been at IU East as SID since 2009 and also serves as the school's associate athletic director, is responsible for bringing widespread coverage of Red Wolves athletics. Wright oversees the sports information of IU East's 15 sports and was selected for the award based on outstanding work in that area.

Highlights for IU East's sports information in 2016-17 included coverage of nationally ranked teams in men's and women's basketball that both won RSC Tournament championships and made runs in the NAIA Division II national tournaments. Wright was instrumental in bringing coverage to the Red Wolves and to the conference as a result. Both basketball teams hosted playoff games with IU East providing live coverage to the conference and national audience.

In the fall season, Wright directed sports information coverage at the RSC Volleyball Tournament in Cincinnati providing live stats and statistical coverage of all tournamment matches. The spring semester had IU East's Red Wolf mascot advance to the NAIA Mascot Challenge with sports information promotion. IU East ended up third overall in the RSC Commissioner's Cup race after the spring season.

Other highlights during the year included affiliating the Red Wolves Sports Network with Stretch Internet, the official video streaming provider of the NAIA and the RSC, and bringing multiple cameras and local TV coverage in the Richmond, Ind., area to those broadcasts.

Wright just completed a multi-year term serving on the conference's Administrative Council as an at-large member. Wright serves as the conference's scheduling committee chair with responsibility of creating conference schedules for every sport years in advance. Wright's work in this area has guided the conference through figuring out complex schedules as the conference has grown in membership and divisions.

The RSC Sports Information Director of the Year award was established in 2014-15. It recognizes a yearly winner for their dedication to sports information efforts in promotion of their campus, conference and the NAIA. It is voted on by athletic directors and the sports information peers within the conference. The RSC was known as the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference until a re-branding took effect on July 1, 2016.
