(RV) Asbury's Thompson picks up RSC MBB Player of the Week Jan. 8-14
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- (RV) Asbury University had forward Trenton Thompson average a double-double that included 29 points per game as the junior picked up River States Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 8-14.
A 6-6 product of Cynthiana, Ky., Thompson led the Eagles to a 2-0 week in conference play by averaging 29.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 51 percent from the field and made 7 of 12 treys for 58 percent from long range.
All of that came in victories of 124-107 over Alice Lloyd and 97-64 at Midway. Thompson pourded in 32 points, made 4 of 5 3-pointers and grabbed 13 rebounds in the shootout versus Alice Lloyd. He followed up with 26 points, nine rebounds and four blocks at Midway.
The victories improved Asbury to 12-6 overall, 5-3 RSC and just a half game out of first place in the division. The Eagles are "receiving votes" nationally, and they were scheduled play at WVU Tech on Jan. 16 before it was postponed due to weather.
