NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Point Park University sophomore Xavier Stephens got off to a good start to 2018 picking up the first River States Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor.

Stephens, a native of Uniontown, Pa., won the award after competing at the Penn State University Nittany Lion Challenge. There he placed 15th in the 1,000 meters with a school-record time of 2:33. He was the only non-NCAA Division I runner in the race, and he just missed the NAIA qualifying standard. His time currently ranks 13th in the NAIA when adjusted for track size.
