Point Park's Shields picks up RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Point Park University's Anna Shields claimed the first River States Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors of the year after her outstanding performance at Penn State University this past weekend.
Shields, a junior from Torrington, Conn., placed second in the mile and third in the 1,000 M at the Nittany Lion Challenge, an NCAA Division I meet. Her time of 4:45 in the mile was the top collegiate performance in the race. She posted a time of 2:48 in the 1,000 M, which came up two-tenths of a second out of first place, and she was the only runner to run both races.
Shields remains with the No. 1 times in the NAIA for both events. Across all levels of collegiate women's indoor track, including Division I, she ranks seventh in the mile and ninth in the 1,000.
