Rio Grande's Smith repeats as RSC WBB Player of the Week Dec. 25-31
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- University of Rio Grande junior Jasmine Smith has repeated as the River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her second award in a row, this time for Dec. 25-31.
The 5-10 forward from Canal Winchester, Ohio, had a very hot game making 9 of 11 field goals for 82-percent shooting and 21 points. That came in an 84-76 win over NAIA Division I Pikeville (Ky.). She also posted eight rebounds, three steals and made 3 of 5 from beyond the arc in that game.
Smith also claimed the conference weekly award from Dec. 11-17, the last time it was given out.
Rio Grande, which is "receiving votes" in the NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll, has won 13 in a row and is 15-1 on the year. The RedStorm is 4-0 RSC and next plays Thursday at Brescia (Ky.).
