IU Kokomo's McClain brings home RSC MBB Player of the Week accolades

NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- IU Kokomo guard Akil McClain scored 59 points in two games last week to garner River States Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors from Jan. 22-28.

A 6-1 sophomore from Hammond, Ind., McClain averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 61 percent from the field and 55 percent (11 for 20) from 3-point range in two games on the week. He also made 10 of 12 free throws for 83 percent.

McClain put up 28 points on 8-for-11 shooting and 4 for 6 from long range in a 97-88 win over Rio Grande. That game featured 8 for 9 from the foul line. He then put up 31 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 99-95 loss to (RV) WVU Tech. He made 7 of 14 treys that game.

IU Kokomo is now 11-13 overall, 7-5 RSC and plays its next game at home to Brescia (Ky.) on Feb. 3.
