No. 12 IU East's King picks up RSC WBB Player of the Week Jan. 1-7
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Senior guard Tia King led No. 12 IU East to two conference wins and thus was named River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 1-7, her second time winning the award this season.
The 5-9 product of Indianapolis, Ind., recorded 22.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in RSC victories over Asbury (Ky.), 108-68, and Alice Lloyd (Ky.), 91-76. King shot 62 percent from the field (18 for 29), 5 for 10 from long range and 4 for 5 from the foul line on the week.
King began the week with 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists and 11-for-16 shooting in the win over Asbury. The shooting display included 5 for 8 from beyond the arc. King later tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and 7 of 13 from the floor versus Alice Lloyd.
IU East (11-7, 3-2 RSC) got right back into a crowded RSC East Division race with the victories and plays again Tuesday at Point Park (Pa.).
