Asbury (Ky.) claims the RSC Championship after tying IU East 0-0 (2OT) and advancing on PKs, 7-6. Asbury earns the RSC's automatic bid to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- With the completion of the regular season on Wednesday night, the seedings and the pairings for the 2018 River States Conference Women's Soccer Championship have been announced at RiverStatesConference.com.
Asbury (Ky.) University hosted IU East on Wednesday night in a makeup contest that determined seedings and first-round matchups. The Eagles and Red Wolves tied, 3-3, in double overtime to set the playoff matchups in place.
Point Park (Pa.) University earned the No. 1 seed in the championship and will be one of the top two seeds to earn a bye into the semifinals. The Pioneers completed the regular season at 11-7 overall, 7-2 RSC and will host a semifinal game Nov. 7.
Asbury secured the No. 2 seed and an opening bye after finishing 9-7-1 overall, 6-2-1 RSC in the regular season. The Eagles will host a semifinal game on Nov. 7 as well.
Carlow (Pa.) University is the No. 3 seed with a record of 8-7-1 overall, 6-2-1 RSC. The Celtics and Asbury had the same conference record, but Asbury got the bye based on a head-to-head win. Carlow will host No. 6 seed Ohio Christian University (7-6-4, 4-2-3 RSC) in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (7-8-2, 5-3-1 RSC) earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 IU East (10-4-3, 5-3-1 RSC) in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. A three-way tie with an RSC winning percentage of .611 existed between Rio Grande, IU East and Ohio Christian. Rio Grande earned the right to host by going 1-0-1 in the group of tied teams, and IU East was next at 1-1-0 in the group.
The RSC Championship final match will be Nov. 10 at the highest remaining seed. The RSC Championship winner will earn the conference's automatic qualification to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.
