Point Park claims inaugural RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship

FINAL RESULTS

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The inaugural River States Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship was held Friday, Feb. 9 at Tiffin University's Heminger Center, and Point Park University came out on top with the team title. It was the first-ever indoor championship meet in conference history, and there were seven teams in attendance.

Point Park won the championship with 188 total points followed by University of Rio Grande in second place with 162. WVU Tech placed third with 98 points followed by Ohio Christian in fourth with 67 points. Rounding out the team standings were IU East (55), Brescia (21) and Carlow (13).

The top three finishers in each event earned All-RSC honors, and the top six placements earned points for their teams. Scoring including 10 points for first place, eight for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. All event winners established RSC indoor meet records since it was the first conference indoor meet held.

Xavier Stephens led Point Park to the team title and was named the RSC Most Outstanding Men's Indoor Track Athlete. Stephens, a sophomore, won the mile and 800 meters. The Pioneers also had the RSC Most Outstanding Men's Indoor Field Athlete with Shaun Berry winning the long jump, placing second in the triple jump and third in the high jump. Point Park took home three of the four individual awards with head coach Kelly Parsley being named RSC Men's Track & Field Indoor Coach of the Year.

RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year honors went to Zavien Parker of Rio Grande, a freshman sprinter who placed first in the 200 meters and second in the 60 meters. He met the NAIA B standard in the 200.
