Point Park wins the first RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship
FINAL RESULTS
TIFFIN, Ohio -- Point Park University won the team title at the first-ever River States Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships held Friday, Feb. 9 at Tiffin University's Heminger Center. The inaugural indoor championship meet in conference history included seven teams in attendance.
Point Park claimed first place with 206 points in the team standings. Ohio Christian University placed second with 139 points, which was just ahead of University of Rio Grande in third place with 133 points. Carlow University placed fourth with 35 points followed by IU East (21 points), WVU Tech (18 points) and Brescia (7 points).
The top three finishers in each event earned All-RSC honors, and the top six placements earned points for their teams. Scoring including 10 points for first place, eight for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. All event winners established RSC indoor meet records since it was the first conference indoor meet held.
Point Park did its main work on the track winning eight of the 16 running events. Anna Shields led the way for the Pioneers winning four individual events on her way to being named RSC Most Outstanding Women's Indoor Track Athlete. She won the mile, 600 meters, 1,000 meters and 3,000 meters and was a part of the winning 4x400 relay team.
Point Park's Ana Benitez was named the RSC Most Outstanding Women's Indoor Field Athlete after winning the triple jump and placing third in the long jump. The Pioneers won three of the individual awards with head coach Kelly Parsley named RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
Ohio Christian freshman Rachel Sargent was a big part of the Trailblazers finishing second overall, and she was named RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year. She placed second in the 60 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. Her teammate Zarria Williams won the 60 and 200.
