Midway's Yazell claims final RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Midway University guard Haleigh Yazell had a big final week of the regular season to claim the last River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor from Feb. 12-18.
A 5-9 sophomore from Paris, Ky., Yazell averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two games to secure a playoff spot for the Eagles. She shot 50 percent from the field (15 for 30), 58 percent from long range (7 for 12) and made 4 of 5 free throws for 80 percent.
Yazell concluded the regular season with 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in a win over Brescia. She had two 20-point games on the week with the first being 20 points and a 4-for-4 performance from 3-point range in a loss to IU Southeast.
Midway (17-13, 9-9 RSC) is the No. 3 playoff seed from the RSC West and plays at No. 2 seed IU East from the RSC East in the playoff quarterfinals Feb. 21.
