Asbury's Thompson picks up another RSC MBB Player of the Week honor
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Asbury (Ky.) University forward Trenton Thompson averaged 37.0 points per game in two games last week to pick up another River States Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor. His second award of the year came from Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
Thompson, a 6-6 junior from Cynthiana, Ky., put up career highs of 40 points and 16 rebounds in a 108-97 loss to Alice Lloyd and then had another 34 points and 10 rebounds in a 94-76 victory over Midway. His big week included shooting 61 percent overall (27 for 44) and 56 percent from long range (5 for 9).
For the week, Thompson averaged a double-double of 37 points and 10 rebounds to increase his conference-leading scoring average to 27.0 points per game. Asbury (16-8, 9-5 RSC) is "receiving votes" in the NAIA DII Top 25 Poll and has its next game Tuesday at Brescia (Ky.).
