Midway's Cespedes picks up RSC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Midway (Ky.) University right-hander Carlos Cespedes had a strong performance this past weekend to claim River States Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for March 5-11.
A senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Cespedes took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and struck out 13 in his start versus IU Kokomo over the weekend. Although he got the no-decision, Cespedes gave up only two hits, one walk and one run in his 7.0 strong innings.
Midway went on to win, 2-1, in walk-off fashion in the eighth inning. The game was scheduled for seven, and Cespedes nearly had a no-hitter. The 13 strikeouts were a career-high.
Midway is now 10-11 overall, 5-1 RSC and hosts Ohio Christian this weekend for its next games.
