RSC Women's T&F pulls in 7 NAIA All-Americans, 2 national titles at NAIA meet
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- River States Conference women's track and field was well-represented at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship this past weekend in Pittsburg, Kan. The RSC brought home seven NAIA All-American honors and two NAIA national titles from its athletes.
RSC women's track & field had three schools represented at NAIA indoor nationals with those being the top three teams from its indoor conference championships of Point Park, Ohio Christian and Rio Grande. All three schools had athletes garner NAIA All-American with Point Park bring home three, Ohio Christian two and Rio Grande two.
Leading the conference's accolades was Point Park runner Anna Shields, who won NAIA national championships in the mile (4:37.30) and the 1,000m (2:46.22). She nearly set NAIA national meet records in each event, and for that she was named the NAIA Women's Outstanding Performer and Co-MVP of the meet. Point Park also had triple jumper Ana Benitez earn NAIA All-American in the triple jump for eighth place (11.68m).
Rio Grande's Tyanna Petty-Craft brought home two NAIA All-American honors after finishing in third place in the high jump (1.71m) and third place in the pentathlon (3,352 points).
Ohio Christian's two NAIA All-Americans were Ariel Young in fourth place in the 5,000m (17:39) and Zarria Williams in seventh place in the long jump (5.76m).
In the final team standings, Point Park placed 10th of 51 schools with 21 points, Rio Grande was 17th with 12 points, and Ohio Christian was 32nd with seven points.
