Rio Grande's Shockley tabbed RSC Baseball Player of the Week
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- University of Rio Grande catcher Dylan Shockley hit .625 with three homers in four games last week to win River States Conference Baseball Player of the Week for April 16-22.
The sophomore from Minford, Ohio, batted 10 for 16 with his three homers, a triple, six RBIs and five walks. He also walked five times and slugged 1.313 for the week. Shockley reached base 15 times in the four games to lead the RedStorm to a 3-1 record on the week and a series win over Midway.
Shockley started off going 3 for 4 with a triple and a homer in an 8-5 win over Northern Kentucky. In the series opener versus Midway, he was 4 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs in an 11-6 win. He went 3 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs in the second game of the series. Shockley also got on the pitching mound to record the save in 1.0 inning versus NKU and the win in 3.0 innings of relief in the series finale versus Midway.
Rio Grande is 23-24 overall, 14-10 RSC and hosts Pikeville (Ky.) for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
