Asbury (Ky.) earns No. 22 seed in NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Asbury (Ky.) University earned the No. 22 seed and will represent the River States Conference at the NAIA Women's Tennis Naitonal Championship May 15-19 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.

The Eagles are 13-3 overall and 8-0 RSC. They enter the national tournament as the RSC Tournament and regular-season champions. Asbury is in the women's national tournament for second year in a row.

The single elimination tournament commences with eight first-round matchups on May 15 starting at 8:30 a.m. CT. The top eight seeds receive a first-round bye and begin action on May 16 at 9 a.m. The event concludes on May 19 with the championship match at 9 a.m.

The field consists of 12 automatic berths, 11 at-large selections, and the host berth Mobile (Ala.). Automatic qualification is given to conference and unaffiliated grouping tournament champions.

At-large teams were determined by the NAIA Tennis National Selection Committee (NSC). The NSC consists of one representative from each geographic area, a representative from the National Administrative Council (NAC), the president of the Tennis Coaches Association and two at-large members. The committee evaluated teams throughout the year on various criteria.

As the No. 22 seed, the Asbury squares off against No. 11 LSU Alexandria in its opening match on May 15 at 8:30 a.m. CT. The winner will play No. 6 William Carey (Miss.) in the second round Wednesday at 9 a.m.
