#RSCVOLLEYBALL opens up with IU East, IU Kokomo picking up conference wins

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The River States Conference volleyball season began this weekend, and coming up with victories on the opening weekend were IU East and IU Kokomo. It was the first installment of conference matchups for the year, and the first full week of RSC volleyball action gets underway Tuesday night with a full slate of matches.

IU East (11-4, 2-0 RSC) went to Pittsburgh and picked up RSC sweeps at Point Park (Pa.) and Carlow (Pa.) on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Red Wolves got out to a 2-0 RSC record to lead the RSC East Division by downing Point Park, 25-19, 25-17, 28-26 and downing Carlow, 25-18, 25-9, 25-16.

IU Kokomo (10-4, 1-0 RSC) opened conference play with a big home win over Brescia (Ky.), 3-0, an RSC West Division matchup. The first set was an epic win of 31-29, which set the Cougars toward victory. IU Kokomo closed out the match, 25-14, 25-21. Brescia is 8-9 on the year.

Elsewhere in the conference, WVU Tech went 3-0 at the St. Mary of the Woods Tournament to improve to 14-3 overall. That included a non-conference win over RSC member Midway (Ky.). Another highlight so far is the hot start of IU Southeast, which is 11-2 overall with the only NAIA loss being to No. 4 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). The Grenadiers open up RSC play Tuesday at Midway.
