RSC named NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Conference for 2017-18
KANSAS CITY, Ohio -- The River States Conference was once again named an NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Conference for the 2017-18 school year. The RSC was one of 16 NAIA conferences across the country to claim this honor, and it had 12 of its members making up the 171 schools in the NAIA to be named NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Institutions.
The RSC earned Five Star recognition thanks to its committment to the NAIA Champions of Character program and the five core character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
In order for a conference to qualify for the honor, it must have at least 60 percent of its membership earn the Five Star recognition on their respective campuses, establish a Champions of Character Committe within the conference and compose a conduct in competition committe with at least three members. The RSC achieved all three of those criteria.
NAIA Champions of Character Five Star award winners are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earn points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year. There are three award levels for institutions -- Gold, Silver and Bronze.
The RSC had four members earn Five Star "Gold" status for the 2017-18 year with those being Brescia (Ky.) University, Indiana University Kokomo, Indiana University Southeast and Midway (Ky.) University.
Three RSC schools earned the "Silver" award including Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College, Asbury (Ky.) University and Ohio Christian University.
Earning the "Bronze" level from the RSC were five schools: Cincinnati Christian University, Indiana University East, Point Park (Pa.) University, University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and WVU Tech.
