MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University senior Anna Shields had an amazing day at the Penn State University Nittany Lion Challenge to earn River States Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Jan. 7-13.

Shields, from Torrington, Conn., won the 3,000 meters and placed second in the 1,000 meters at the NCAA Division I meet. Both of those improved on her already No. 1 times in the NAIA from earlier this year.

She won the 3,000 with a time of 9:39.19 to best her previous time by 16 seconds. The 1,000 was a great race with Shields' time of 2:42.51 good for No. 1 in the NAIA, No. 2 in all of collegiate track and currently No. 4 in the world so far this year. Placing first in the that race was PSU's Danae Rivers with a new collegiate record and the top time in the country this year.

Next up for the Pioneers is the Youngstown State University College Invitational on Friday, Jan. 18.
