Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List features three #RSCMBB players

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -- The Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List has been released by Small College Basketball, and three players from the River States Conference have made the list of candidates.

The Bevo Francis Award is presented annually to the player who "has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball." That encompasses NCAA Division II & III, NAIA Division I & II, USCAA and NCCAA men's basketball players all over the country. The award is named for the University of Rio Grande legend.

Making the Top 100 Watch List from the RSC were Asbury (Ky.) University senior Trenton Thompson, WVU Tech senior Elisha Boone and IU Southeast senior Jamie Johnson. On Feb. 15, the list will be cut down to the Top 50 players and cut down to the Top 25 players on March 15. The finalists will be announced April 6, and the winner will be picked April 8.

This marks the fourth season of the Bevo Francis Award, as the award was previously given to Dominez Burnett of Davenport (Mich.) in 2016, Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State in 2017 and Emanuel Terry of Lincoln Memorial last season.

"This was an extremely difficult process, and I am very thankful to our committee for their input and feedback on many players throughout the country," said John McCarthy, Small College Basketball Founder. "When we look out over the landscape of small college basketball, we're trying to find the best of the best, based on our criteria, out of about 1,100 - 1,200 colleges and universities.

"As such, it's a real honor to be included on this prestigious list. Each of the players on this list is in the midst of a heck of a season, and I congratulate each and every one of them."

Thompson is a 6-6 senior forward from Asbury who is averaging 21.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. He is shooting 47 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range to have Asbury near the top of the RSC West Division.

Boone is a 6-4 senior guard from WVU Tech averageing 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game per game. He is shooting 52 percent from the floor to lead the Golden Bears to a No. 12 ranking in the country and the top of the RSC East Division.

Johnson is a 6-0 senior guard from IU Southeast who is averaging 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game. he is shooting 47 percent from the field for the No. 23-ranked Grenadiers as one of the top teams in the RSC West.
