WVU Tech's Requena takes home RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- WVU Tech center Laura Requena had a huge week averaging 21.3 points and 14.7 rebounds in three games to earn River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 14-20.
WVU Tech won all three games with Requena totaling 64 points, 44 rebounds, four assists and two blocks for the week. The 6-0 junior from Madrid, Spain, shot 63 percent (26 for 41) from the field and 71 percent (12 for 17) from the foul line.
Requena posted 24 points and 14 rebounds in a victory over Alice Lloyd (Ky.). There were also 12 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Asbury (Ky.). Her biggest game capped off the week with 28 points, 17 rebounds and 11-for-13 shooting in a victory over Midway (Ky.).
WVU Tech is 14-8 overall, 9-1 RSC and visits Cincinnati Christian on Thursday.
