Point Park repeats as RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Champions

TIFFIN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University repeated as River States Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field champions with its first-place finish of nine teams on Friday at the conference championships hosted at Tiffin University's Heminger Center.

The Pioneers won the inaugural RSC indoor championship last year and captured the title once again. Point Park totaled 158 points to come out on top with the most points in the team standings. University of Rio Grande (Ohio) placed second with 130 points, and Cincinnati Christian University took third with 112.

Next in the standings were IU East (108), Ohio Christian University (94.5), Carlow (Pa.) University (39.5), Midway (Ky.) University (30), WVU Tech (26.5) and Brescia (Ky.) University (22)

Anna Shields led Point Park to the championship by being named RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She had the most points in the meet and on the track with 42.5 total. She won four individual events -- the 600, 1000, mile and 3000 -- and she also anchored the 4x400 relay, one of the last events of the day and one that helped the Pioneers lock up the title.

Point Park's Kelly Parsley was named RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for leading Point Park to first place. It is the second year in a row that the Pioneers' fifth-year coach received the honor.

A pair of big, individual award winners led Rio Grande to its runner-up team finish. Beyonce Bobbitt was named the RSC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year by scoring 18.0 points in the throws. She was first in the weight throw and second in the shot put.

Rio Grande's Chavanier Robinson scored 28.0 points combined between the track and the field to claim RSC Women's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year. She was the fastest woman in the conference this year as the 60-meter champ, and she also won the long jump in addition to being third in the 200 and seventh in the triple jump.
