RSC garners 8 players with NAIA DII Men's Basketball All-American accolades

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- River States Conference men's basketball had eight players earn NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-American honors with the release of the teams on Thursday by the national office. WVU Tech senior guard and RSC Player of the Year Elisha Boone led the conference's honorees as an NAIA Division II First Team All-American selection.

Boone, a 6-4 native of Bronx, N.Y., was a candidate for NAIA Division II Player of the Year leading the Golden Bears to a 30-4 record and a No. 1 seed in the national tournament. He averaged 20.0 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game and shot 52 percent from the field.

In all, the RSC had eight of its 10 all-conference first team honorees earn NAIA All-American mention. Asbury (Ky.) University senior forward Trenton Thompson was named NAIA Second Team All-American with 22.5 ppg and 8.5 rpg. IU Southeast senior guard Jamie Johnson earned NAIA Third Team All-American honors after a season of 22.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 5.2 apg.

Gaining NAIA Honorable Mention All-American status from the conference were Cincinnati Christian forward Blake Walsman (21.7 ppg, 16.5 rpg), IU Kokomo guard Trequan Spivey (18.6 ppg), IU East guard Bishop Smith (18.1 ppg), Brescia forward Kayode Daboiku (17.3 ppg, 8.9 rpg) and WVU Tech's guard Brandon Shingles (15.0 ppg).
