By Asbury Sports Information
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Asbury University men's tennis team won their ninth straight match on Friday afternoon over IU East at the Queen City Racquet Club to win their eighth straight River States Conference (RSC) regular season title.
AU swept the Red Wolves 9-0 and have won their past three matches 9-0. The Eagles only lost one conference match the entire year in their 8-1 win over Brescia.
The Eagles got things going quickly with dominating wins in doubles play. Choopat Suvimolstean/ Aquille Trotman won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Joshua Turnquest/ Felipe Penuela and Luiz Gustavo Hartkopf/ Shane Mustor didn't drop a single game in their 8-0 victories.
With a 3-0 lead already, the momentum carried over into singles as AU never lost a set in all six of the matches.
Asbury ends the regular season 11-3 and will be the No. 1 seed in the River States Conference Tennis Championship Tournament next weekend in Mason, Ohio.
Asbury will look to make a returning trip to the NAIA National Tournament and win their third straight conference tournament title on April 26-27.
