CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Asbury University women's tennis team won their third straight regular season River States Conference (RSC) title on Friday with a 6-3 win over IU East at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati.
AU ends the regular season with an overall record of 10-4 and a perfect 7-0 record in league play.
The Eagles will be the No. 1 seed in the RSC Tennis Championship Tournament next weekend in Mason, Ohio.
On Friday, Asbury had their toughest match of the RSC regular season. With wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles from Alexandra Lerma/Giovana Kelm and Allie Sutton/ Luciana Iriarte, AU took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Asbury had a few tough matches in single play, but for the most part, were able to roll to easy wins.
Kelm won at No. 2 singles after winning a close first-set tiebreaker 7-6, 1-0.
Kendall Jablonowski dropped only one game in her match at No. 3 singles to cruise to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Lerma and Iriarte both won handily at the four and five positions with straight-set 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 victories.
