All-RSC Women's Tennis Teams & Awards presented at RSC Championship
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The 2019 River States Conference Women's Tennis Championship kicked off Thursday night with the presentation of the All-RSC Women's Tennis Teams & Awards for this year. An awards ceremony was held at the Queen City Racquet Club to begin the weekend festivities.
With voting conducted from the RSC head coaches, All-RSC First & Second Teams were chosen along with the RSC Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year. Also named was the RSC Champions of Character Team.
IU East sophomore Thais Mendez was the top vote-getter during the selection process and thus was chosen as the RSC Player of the Year. A native of Vina del Mar, Chile, she was also tabbed RSC Newcomer of the Year as a new player to the league this season. Mendez went undefeated in RSC play this spring playing No. 1 singles for the Red Wolves. She was the ITA Midwest Regional runner-up and the RSC fall individual champ earlier this year.
There were six players on the All-RSC First Team with Mendez leading the way with close voting all throughout the first team. Hannah-Joy Simms (Brescia) made the first team along with two sets of teammates -- Alejandra Diaz and Giovana Kelm of Asbury and Lauren Winchell and Alexis Applegate of IU Southeast. There were seven players on the All-RSC Second Team representing five different schools.
Taking home RSC Coach of the Year honors was Asbury head coach Jarred Miller. He led the Eagles to the RSC regular-season title for the third year in a row and the No. 1 seed in the RSC Championship beginning Friday. Asbury is receiving votes nationally, is 10-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the RSC.
The RSC Champions of Character Team named one player from each school who be exhibits the five character values of NAIA Champions of Character, which are respect, responsibility, intergrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
See below for the complete listing of the All-RSC Teams & Awards. The RSC Women's Tennis Championship will begin on Friday back at the Queen City Racquet Club.
