DAY 1 LEADERBOARD I FINAL RD PAIRINGS I LIVE SCORING
FLORENCE, Ind. -- After the completion of Day 1 of the 2019 River States Conference Women's Golf Championship, Midway (Ky.) University leads by nine shots through 36 holes played on Monday. The final round of 18 holes will be played on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. The championship is being held at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
Midway, which has won the last three conference titles, shot rounds of 313 and 321 on Monday to lead the field of nine schools. The Eagles have all five of their players in the top 11 spots individually to pack the leaderboard.
IU East is in second place with scores of 317 and 326. The Red Wolves trailed Midway by four shots after the first round, but they still are within nine strokes with 18 holes to go. Asbury (Ky.) University shot 328-326 and is 20 shots off the lead in third place. IU Kokomo sits in fourth place to round out the top half of the team leaderboard.
Temperatures were on the rise for Monday's action, and the teams also had to deal with wind gust playing a role during the second round. That contributed to higher scores as the day wore on, and seven of the nine teams had their team score go up in round two.
Bre Nowak, a senior from IU East, is the individual leader after two rounds. She shot a pair of 75's on Monday for a 36-hole score of 6-over 150. That's three in front of Midway's Hannah Scroggins (74-79--153) in second place. Point Park (Pa.) University's Joey Walz (77-80--157) is in third place, right in front of Asbury (Ky.) University's Hannah McCrabb (80-78--158).
In addition to Scroggins in second place, Midway also has Rachel Shelton (77-84) in sixth, Rylee Beard (77-86) in eighth, Jenna Lewis (85-79) tied for ninth and Kayla Meredith (86-79) in 11th. IU East features four players in the top 12, and Asbury has three players in that range.
