Midway (Ky.) wins fourth-straight RSC Women's Golf Championship
FINAL RESULTS
FLORENCE, Ind. -- Another year, another conference title for Midway (Ky.) University women's golf. The Eagles won their fourth-consecutive River States Conference Championship by wrapping up the 2019 title on Tuesday at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind. Midway completed a nine-shot win over the field of nine schools for its fourth title in a row.
Midway led by nine shots after the first 36 holes played on Monday. The Eagles maintained that lead through to the end with second-place IU East matching Midway shot for shot on Tuesday. Both teams shot 323 over the final 18 holes, so there was no room for a comeback.
Asbury (Ky.) University placed third with the best round of the day on Monday. The Eagles shot a 322 in the final round and ended up 19 shots off the winning score. IU Kokomo placed fourth at the end of each day and held steady to cruise into a fourth-place finish.
Midway advances to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship May 14-17 with the RSC's automatic bid. The national tournament will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Midway has won RSC titles in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
IU East senior Bre Nowak went wire-to-wire to win RSC medalist honors on her way to picking up RSC Women's Golfer of the Year. Nowak opened up with two scores of 75 in rounds one and two on Monday. That gave her a three-shot lead after the first day. She increased that by one on Tuesday with a 77.
Hannah Scroggins of Midway placed second to lead her team. Midway finished with all five of its players making the Top 10 finishers this year. Point Park (Pa.) University junior Joey Walz placed third overall and was chosen as RSC Newcomer of the Year. Asbury had two of the top five placements with Hannah McCrabb and Faith Wiley placing fourth and fifth.
Also awarded at the championship were the All-RSC Women's Golf Teams & Awards. The All-RSC honorees were identified as having the best four rounds combined between the fall preview and the spring championship at Belterra. And the RSC Women's Golf Champions of Character team was also awarded with one player from each school who best exhibits the NAIA's Champions of Character values.
