IU Southeast, (RV) Rio Grande competing in NAIA Softball National Championship

IU Southeast and (RV) University of Rio Grande (Ohio) are competing in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round as the representatives from the River States Conference. The national tournament is May 13-15 at 10 host sites around the country with the winners advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series May 23-29 in Springfield, Mo.

The RSC's two national qualifiers each have more than 30 wins on the year, and they battled to the end of the RSC Championship tournament. IU Southeast came out on top in extra innings in the second championship game.

IU Southeast is in the national tournament as the RSC Championship winner. The Grenadiers are 32-22 overall and went 13-5 in the RSC. IU Southeast earned the No. 4 seed in the Springfield Bracket hosted by Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. The Grenadiers face No. 1 seed Marian (Ind.) in the first round on May 13.

(RV) Rio Grande earned its national bid as RSC regular-season champion. The RedStorm is 34-14 overall, 17-1 RSC and drew the No. 4 seed in the Lawrenceville Bracket hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College. Rio Grande plays No. 1 seed Georgia Gwinnett to begin the tournament on May 13. Rio Grande is "receiving votes" nationally in the NAIA Top 25.
