IU East's Nowak competing in NAIA Women's Golf National Championship as RSC medalist

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Recent Indiana University East graduate Bre Nowak concludes her Red Wolf golf career at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships starting May 14 in Oklahoma City. The four-day, 72-hole event will be played at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

Nowak tees off from No. 10 at 9:54 a.m. (IU East time) on May 14. She begins play from No. 1 at 2:50 p.m. (IU East time) on May 15.

The field will be cut to the top 17 teams and top 40 individuals (including ties) for the final two rounds.

LAST TIME OUT

Nowak finished 10th at the 2018 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Nowak carded a 77 in all three of the rounds played and finished with a 54-hole score of 231. She earned a spot on the all-tournament team, an honor that included automatic qualification for the 2019 national tournament.

Nowak enters the national tournament with momentum after taking first place at the River States Conference Championships for the third time in four years. Nowak posted a program-record 54-hole score of 227 at the conference tournament April 29 and 30 to win the event by five strokes.

IU EAST STORYLINES

* Nowak is one of six individual qualifiers in the 156-player field.

* Nowak is the only golfer in IU East women's golf program history who has qualified for the national tournament.

* Nowak enters the national tournament with an 18-hole spring average of 76.75.

* Nowak played the par-3s and the par-5s under par at the RSC Championships. She has an average score of 4.64 on par-5s during the spring season and is averaging almost exactly 2.00 putts per hole.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

This will be Oklahoma City and Lincoln Park's first time hosting the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships. The tournament will be held on the facility's West Course.

SCAD Savannah is the reigning NAIA women's golf national champion. SCAD Savannah junior Maria Paula Otero is the reigning national medalist. Keiser (Fla.) is the No. 1 team in the most recent NAIA Women's Golf Coaches Poll.
