By IU Southeast Sports Information

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The IU Southeast baseball team fell 6-1 to No. 13-ranked Georgetown in the 2019 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Georgia Gwinnett College on Monday.

The Grenadiers (35-19) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Tyler Mills doubled to right and Cody Maloon followed with a RBI double to left-center.

The Tigers (44-13) answered right back in the bottom of the frame as they struck for three runs. Randall Schab hit a two-run double and Shota Usuda followed with a RBI single.

Georgetown put the game away with a three-run fifth inning. A two-run single by Chris Gilbody started the scoring and he was driven in when Ryan Gaynor doubled.

IU Southeast opened the seventh inning with back-to-back singles by Cody Maloon and Brody Tanksley but a fielder's choice and 6-4-3 double player ended the threat.

Chas Adams (8-3) worked five innings and took the loss. Kyle Fieger (8-0) got the complete-game win.

Cody Maloon went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

IU Southeast will take on St. Xavier (Ill.) Tuesday at 11 a.m. in an elimination game.
