OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After getting in a practice round on Monday, the Midway women's golf team returned to the course on Tuesday to play the opening round of the 2019 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Eagles got off to a solid start as they made the turn at 23-over, but they faltered down the stretch and finished with a 333 in the opening round. They sit in 28th place after the first round holding a 10-shot edge over Oklahoma Wesleyan and a 19-shot lead over Vanguard (Calif.).

Midway will begin play in the second round on Wednesday starting at 9:54 a.m. ET. They currently sit just eight shots back of the top-25. Live scoring is available for the event here.

The Blue and Gold were led by Jenna Lewis on Tuesday. The sophomore from Shelbyville, Ky. played the front nine at 6-over, but she made the turn and played the final nine holes of her round at 1-under to card a 5-over, 77.

She was 6-over in her first seven holes, but finished with one bogey and eight pars, while she birdied the par-3 15th and the par-4 17th on her way in. The sophomore is currently in a tie for 53rd out of 156 total golfers.

Hannah Scroggins, a junior from Williamstown, Ky., was in a similar situation as Lewis, but she also finished strong. Scroggins was also 6-over in her first seven holes, but she carded seven pars in her final 11 holes en route to an 83 in the opening 18-holes.

Finishing within one shot of one another to round out the scoring for the Eagles was Kayla Meredith and Rylee Beard.

Meredith, a junior from Brownsville, Ky., played both the front and back nine at 7-over to finish with an 86 in the opening round, while Beard, a senior from Campbellsville, Ky., found most of her success on the front nine. Beard fired a 41 on the front nine but struggled on the back nine shooting a 46 as she collected an 87 in her opening 18-holes.

The final player in action for the Eagles was Rachael Shelton. The freshman from Leitchfield, Ky. posted a 90 in the opening round to round out the lineup for the Eagles.
