VIENNA, W.Va. -- The 2019 River States Conference Softball Championship bracket and qualifiers are set for the six-team, double-elimination tournament May 2-4 at Jackson Memorial Park in Vienna, W.Va. The winner will automatically qualify for the NAIA Softball National Championship.
Jackson Memorial Park is located at 634 Jackson Park Drive, Vienna, W.Va. 26105. The River States Conference and the City of Vienna welcomes all fans, teams, players and community members for an exciting weekend of RSC Softball!
The action gets underway the evening of Thursday, May 2 with two quarterfinal games. The top two seeds receive a bye into the morning of Friday, May 3 to begin day two of the tournament. Championship play continues with a total of six games scheduled for Friday. The champion will be crowned on Satuday, May 4 with two or, if necessary, three games on the schedule.
University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (32-12, 17-1 RSC) is the No. 1 seed and the RSC regular-season champion. The four-time defending conference tournament champions are already guaranteed an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship by virtue of its first-place finish. The RedStorm will have a bye to begin and plays its first game on Friday at 10 a.m.
No. 4 seed Midway (Ky.) University (20-24, 9-9 RSC) will face No. 5 seed Carlow (Pa.) University (18-18, 8-10 RSC) in one of the quarterfinal games on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to face Rio Grande.
No. 2 seed IU Southeast (28-22, 13-5 RSC) earned a bye with its second-place finish in the regular season. The Grenadiers play their first game Friday at 10 a.m. awaiting the winner of No. 3 seed Point Park (Pa.) University (19-16, 12-6 RSC) versus No. 6 WVU Tech (20-26, 8-10 RSC). The Pioneers and Golden Bears play a quarterfinal game on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Thursday's festivities include the RSC Softball awards ceremony to take place recognizing the all-conference teams and award winners for this year.
