Anna Shields named RSC Female Athlete of the Year for third time

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University track and cross country star Anna Shields has been selected as the 2018-19 River States Conference Female Athlete of the Year. It is the third year in a row that the senior from Torrington, Conn., claimed the honor, which identifies the top overall female performer in the RSC across all sports. It was voted on by athletic directors in the league.

During the 2018-19 school year, Shields won five more NAIA national championships and six NAIA All-American honors combined during track and cross country. With that performance, she pushed her career totals to 10 NAIA national titles and 15 NAIA All-American accolades.

Shields won the NAIA national championship in cross country in the fall of 2018 with a 5K time of 17:15. During the indoor track season of 2018-19, she won NAIA national titles in the mile (4:37) and 1,000 meters (2:44) and anchored Point Park's distance-medley relay that finished second in the country. The spring season of outdoor track saw Shields cap off her career with national championships in the 800 (2:05) and 1,500 meters (4:18).

Shields was also dominant on the conference level winning the RSC individual title in cross country as well as being named the RSC Track Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She amassed a total of 13 All-RSC honors during the 2018-19 school year with her win in cross country, five gold medals in indoor track, five in outdoor track and two silver medals in outdoor track.
