IU East's Kumwenda tabbed RSC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- IU East defender Dumi Kumwenda was a key player on defense in the Red Wolves' season-opening win and thus was named River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 19-25.

Kumwenda is a senior from Blantyre, Malawi. He recorded an assists on IU East's opening goal in the victory, a 2-1 win over Shawnee State. The Red Wolves were up 2-0 at the half and allowed just the one goal despite facing 15 shots.

IU East (1-0) will visit Lourdes (Ohio) for its next match on Aug. 31.
