Midway (Ky.) takes home RSC Women's Golf Fall Preview title
RESULTS
FLORENCE, Ind. -- Midway (Ky.) University shot the best round of the tournament on Tuesday to claim the team title at the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview. The Eagles turned in a tourney-best score of 320 in the final round to win by 11 shots over the rest of the field at Belterra Golf Club.
Midway, which opened up with a 328 in the first round Monday, was trailing by two shots with 18 holes left. But the Eagles knocked eight strokes off their score from one day to the next to come out on top. The Eagles led the tournament with 12 birdies and also led in scoring on par-5s and par 3-s.
Indiana University East moved up to second place in the final standings thanks to a team score of 323 on Tuesday. The Red Wolves started out with a 336 and were in third place after the first round.
Asbury (Ky.) University (326-341) was the first-round leader and took third place. The Eagles had the medalist with Faith Wiley shooting 73-76. That was good for 5-over for the tournament and a three-shot win over Midway's Emilie Hill (74-78).
IU East's Jo Wisecup (80-74) and Asbury's Hannah McCrabb (77-77) tied for third place. Rafaella Gioffre (83-74) from University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and Joey Walz (78-79) from Point Park (Pa.) University tied for fifth.
Brescia (Ky.) University placed fourth with rounds of 342-341. Indiana University Kokomo (357-335), Oakland City (Ind.) (364-328) and Rio Grande (371-349) were next in the standings, and all of those schools cut big strokes off their scorecards in the final round. Point Park (Pa.) University (378-394) placed eighth.
This week's individual scores will contribute to the all-conference and individual award selections at the RSC Championship in the spring. This week's event also provided a preview of how the teams stack up this year.
