RSC Women's Basketball Update Feb. 19: Final weekend of regular season upcoming
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The River States Conference Women's Basketball Update for Feb. 19 comes to you during the final week of the regular season. Many of the playoff spots were locked up in the last 10 days or earlier this week. There is only a slight opening for any more playoff qualifiers to make their way through.
IU East and Ohio Christian punched their postseason tickets on Tuesday night. IU East beat Point Park, 76-66, and Ohio Christian topped Carlow, 83-78, as both of those teams improved to 8-7 RSC. That solidified the four teams that would make the playoffs out of the RSC East Division.
No. 24-ranked WVU Tech and University of Rio Grande (Ohio) continue to lead the RSC East. Having already clinched the division title and the overall conference regular season, WVU Tech stayed hot with its 17th victory in a row, a 96-89 triumph at Point Park last weekend. That improved the Golden Bears to 23-6 overall, 15-0 RSC. Rio Grande shook off a recent losing streak to win its last two games. That has improved the RedStorm to 18-11 overall, 10-5 RSC heading into Saturday's showdown versus WVU Tech at home.
The RSC West Division title is still up for grabs with IU Southeast (18-11, 9-7 RSC) and Midway (Ky.) University (20-8, 8-7 RSC) in the running. Both teams have missed a chance to lock up the division over the last week but instead it will come down to Saturday when Midway hosts Alice Lloyd (Ky.).
IU Kokomo (15-12, 7-8 RSC) has won three of its last four games to move into third place in the RSC East. Asbury (Ky.) University (18-10, 6-8 RSC) is in the fourth position and can ensure a playoff spot with a victory Thursday night at Alice Lloyd.
There are a total of five games on Saturday, the final day of the regular season. IU East and Ohio Christian go to Pittsburgh to play at Carlow and Point Park, respectively. Brescia goes to IU Kokomo to finish out the regular season.
