RSC gets three NAIA DII Men's Basketball All-Americans, two Honorable Mention
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The River States Conference had a total of five players named on the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball All-America Teams for 2019-20. The conference had three players earn All-America honors and two more named Honorable Mention.
There were 10 players each named to the first, second and third teams with the rest named honorable mention.
WVU Tech senior guard Junior Arrey led the way on the NAIA DII All-America First Team. The RSC Player of the Year was ranked fifth in the country in assists as the point guard and leader of the No. 17-ranked Golden Bears. He led WVU Tech to the national tournament with team-highs of 16.4 points, 5.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.
IU East senior guard Bishop Smith was named to the NAIA DII All-America Second Team. Smith led the No. 20 Red Wolves to the RSC Championship and the national tourney ranking second in the country with 126 made 3-pointers and 3.9 made 3-pointers per game. Smith posted season averages of 21.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College senior guard Blake Smith earned NAIA DII All-American Third Team honors. The RSC scoring leader ranked fourth nationally with 26.4 points per game and 767 total points on the year. He grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game and shot 47 percent overall.
The RSC had two players named honorable mention with IU Southeast junior forward David Burton (17.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg) and No. 22 IU Kokomo junior forward Desean Hampton (11.1 ppg, 10.5 rpg) making the list. That made the top five players from the All-RSC voting gain All-America mention.
