Rd 1 Recap: Midway (Ky.) leads IU East by 1 shot after 18 holes

FLORENCE, Ind. -- The first 18 holes played Monday at the RSC Women's Golf Fall Preview came down to a single shot. Midway (Ky.) University leads Indiana University East by a single stroke heading into Tuesday's second and final round at Belterra Golf Club.

Midway shot a team score of 313 with IU East right behind at 314 in the opening round Monday. Ohio Valley (W.Va.) University is in third place with 333 followed by Oakland City (Ind.) University fourth at 340.

There are nine teams competing this week in the preview to the RSC Championship in the spring. Final-round play begins at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday with schools grouped in threesomes based on the standings after day one.

Midway's Jenna Lewis is the first-round leader with a 1-over 73 on the 5,830-yard layout. Jo Wisecup from IU East is just one shot back with a 74 followed by Brandi Jones (IU Kokomo), Haylee Exline (Oakland City) and Emilie Hill (Midway) all in a tie for third at 75.

There were a total of seven players in the 70s on Monday, a group that includes Ohio Valley's Ashley Offenberger and IU East's Paola Delgado tied for sixth with 79 each.

Midway, IU East and Ohio Valley will be grouped together Tuesday to represent the top fo the team leaderboard. Oakland City, Brescia (Ky.) and IU Kokomo will play together, as will St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Rio Grande (Ohio) and Carlow (Pa.).
