2021 All-RSC Men's Soccer Teams & Awards released
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- The 2021 All-River States Conference Men's Soccer Teams & Awards have been released at RiverStatesConference.com. After a vote of the 10 RSC men's soccer head coaches, the awards were selected.
The All-RSC First & Second Teams consist of 14 players each -- four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders and two goalkeepers. Also selected were the individual awards for student-athletes and coaches and the RSC Men's Soccer Champions of Character Team.
University of Rio Grande (Ohio) dominated the individual awards as the regular-season champion. The No. 13-ranked RedStorm pulled in all four of of the individual awards for players. That included RSC Player of the Year Ewan McLauchlan, RSC Offensive Player of the Year and RSC Newcomer of the Year Gabriel Silva and RSC Defensive Player of the Daniel Merino.
McLauchlan was the top player on the top team in the league and thus was Player of the Year. With seven goals, four assists and 18 points on the year, he led the way from the midfield for the nationally ranked Rio Grande squad.
Silva earned his awards with team-highs of 16 goals and 35 points, which both rank third in the conference. Merino earned the top defensive honor leading the conference with only 10 goals allowed, a 0.58 goals against average and 10 shutouts.
Brescia (Ky.) University head coach Cameron Williams was voted RSC Coach of the Year. In his third season, he led the Bearcats to a second-place finish in the RSC standings at 9-7-1 overall, 6-2-1 RSC.
The RSC Champions of Character Team selected one player from each team who best exhibits the five character traits of NAIA Champions of Character: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
