Point Park claims another title at RSC Men's Indoor T&F Championship

RESULTS

LOGAN, Ohio -- For the third time in four years, Point Park (Pa.) University claimed the River States Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship held Saturday at the Chieftain Center in Logan, Ohio.

The Pioneers amassed a team score of 202 points to out-distance the other seven teams by a comfortable margin. University of Rio Grande (Ohio) claimed runner-up honors with 122 points with WVU Tech close behind in third with 112 and Midway (Ky.) University in fourth with 103.

Point Park won six of the 14 events contested on the track and two of the six field events. The Pioneers also had a total of 15 all-conference performances for top three in the RSC to win for the third time since the inaugural indoor championship in 2018. Point Park also won in 2018 and 2019 and was runner-up last year.

Daimere Stephens-Stewart paced Point Park with three gold medals and a silver throughout the day. That earned him RSC Men's Newcomer of the Year honors. The freshman was first in the 60 meters, long jump and triple jump and took second in the 200 meters.

Point Park head coach Jim Spisak was voted RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Ohio Christian University junior Drake Dickerson shined in the middle distance events and was selected the RSC Men's Outstanding Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He was first in the mile with a time of 4:37 and also second in the 1,000 meters. He then led the Trailblazers to a meet record in the distance medley relay as the team posted a time of 10:53.

IU Kokomo senior Grant Gaylor, a newcomer to the Cougars team that is in its first year of indoor track, was named RSC Men's Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year. He set a meet record in the shot put with a toss of 16.63 meters. That beat the rest of the field by a wide margin and ranks top 10 in the nation.

Ohio Christian took fifth with 75 points followed by Brescia (Ky.) (51) in sixth, Carlow (Pa.) (24) in seventh and IU Kokomo (16) in eighth. Click the results link above for complete meet results.

There were four men's meet records set on the day. Beside the previously mentioned records in the shot put and DMR, Cody Booth of Rio Grande set a record in the 3,000 meters at 8:57, and Steven Smith of WVU Tech set a record in the 3,000-meter race walk at 12:16.

Also named was the RSC Men's Indoor Track & Field Champions of Character Team. One individual from each school was nominated by their coach for best representing the NAIA's core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
