Gibbs grabs RSC Softball Pitcher & Player of the Week for No. 24 IU Southeast
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Brooklyn Gibbs had an amazing week in the pitcher's circle and in the batter's box to earn River States Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for No. 24 IU Southeast. The award was for her play Feb. 22-28.
A freshman from Mt. Vernon, Ind., Gibbs pitched 18.0 innings without giving up an earned run and also hit .688 with four home runs on the week. That powered the Grenadiers to a 6-0 start to the season in their first week of competition.
At the plate, she was 11 for 16 with two doubles, a triple and those four homers. Gibbs collected seven RBIs and slugged 1.688. She was 5 for 5 in a doubleheader sweep of Alice Lloyd (Ky.), which included three home runs. She was also 3 for 5 with a homer in a sweep of Grace (Ind.) and then 3 for 6 with a double and a triple in a sweep of IU South Bend.
Gibbs went 4-0 as a pitcher in two starts and two relief appearances. She posted a 0.00 ERA as the only run she gave up all week was unearned. Along the way, there were 13 strikeouts, six walks and eight hits allowed.
