MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- WVU Tech goalkeeper Lucas Rivera and Oakland City (Ind.) University midfielder Ian Fierro were named River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week for March 22-28, respectively.
Rivera, a senior from Beckley, W.Va., came up big in the Golden Bears' only game of the week. He made five saves in a 2-1 victory over St. Andrews (N.C.). He played all 90 minutes in the road win, which pushed No. 21-ranked WVU Tech to 11-3 on the year.
Fierro, a sophomore from Lerma, Mexico, scored two goals in a 3-1 victory over Asbury (Ky.). The win evened the Might Oaks' record at 7-7 overall and 4-4 RSC to get within playoff contention. He scored the opening goal as Oakland City got out to a 2-0 lead. When Asbury cut the lead to 2-1 in the 75th minute, he scored three minutes later to secure the win.
