NAIA Indoor T&F National Championship Recap -- River States Conference
WOMEN'S RESULTS I MEN'S RESULTS
YANTON, S.D. -- River States Conference schools brought home nine NAIA All-Americans and one NAIA national champion at the 2021 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships held over the weekend in Yankton, S.D. The event was held at Mount Marty (S.D.) University.
RSC MEN'S RECAP
WVU Tech senior Steven Smith won the NAIA national championship in the men's 3,000-meter race walk to lead the RSC contigent at nationals. He won the event by 43 seconds over the next competitor with a time of 12:26.
IU Kokomo senior Grant Gaylor took national runner-up honors in the shot put. He had a toss of 17.64 meters for the NAIA All-American status.
University of Rio Grande (Ohio) senior Dean Freitag made it three RSC men's athletes to get NAIA All-American as he was third in the 3,000-meter race walk at 13:21. WVU Tech Joseph Schmitt was also a national qualifier in the event but was DQ'd in the highly technical race.
Ohio Christian University junior Drake Dickerson qualified for nationals in the mile and placed 14th at 4:29. Rio Grande freshman Spencer Harris qualified in the long jump and took 13th at 6.64 meters.
RSC WOMEN'S RECAP
RSC women's indoor track and field athletes earned NAIA All-American honors in all six events in which they competed at nationals. Carlow (Pa.) University senior Olivia Miller led the way as a double NAIA All-American in the high jump and pentathlon.
Miller took sixth in the pentathlon with 3,282 points, which was highlighed by taking second in the shot put portion of the event. She was also sixth in the high jump clearing 1.61 meters.
Midway (Ky.) University freshman Alexia Schofield earned NAIA All-American by placing third in the triple jump. She did so with a leap of 11.87 meters.
Point Park (Pa.) University junior Alyssa Campbell was NAIA All-American in the 3,000 meters placing fifth at 10:08.
WVU Tech freshman Stefanie Meachem placed sixth in the 3,000-meter race walk for NAIA All-American accolades. That came with a time of 15:46.
IU Kokomo junior Lexi Jackson ran the 5,000 meters and placed seventh for NAIA All-American status. Her time was 17:52.
