Point Park's Monteiro, IU East's Lenke get RSC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Point Park (Pa.) University junior Marco Monteiro and Indiana University East senior Trevor Lenke earned River States Conference Men's Soccer Defesive and Offensive Player of the Week for their performances April 5-11.
Monteiro, a defender from Vila Boa, Portugal, spearheaded the Point Park defense in a 2-1 playoff win over IU East in the quarterfinals last Thursday. The center back was the main point of defense for the Pioneers, who built a 2-0 lead and nearly pitched a shutout before a goal in the 85th minute.
Lenke, a center forward from Lawrenceburg, Ind., had a huge game to get IU East into the playoffs. He scored four goals in a 5-4 win over Midway in the regular-season finale, which clinched a playoff spot for the Red Wolves. He then offered an assist in the postseason game and finished his career with a school-record 27 goals.
