IU East advances to NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship with the RSC's automatic bid to nationals


RSC WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- The 2021 River States Conference Women's Tennis Championship will be Friday-Saturday, April 23-24 at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Ky. The top six teams from the RSC standings qualified for the championship, and they will be vying for the conference's automatic bid to nationals.

Indiana University East claimed the No. 1 seed with a perfect conference record of 8-0 RSC. The Red Wolves swept their RSC regular-season slate to come out on top of a conference race that was crowded at the top. The Red Wolves get a bye into the semifinals.

Indiana University Kokomo is the No. 2 seed at 6-2 RSC and also gets an opening bye. The Cougars had the tiebreakers in their favor to earn the bye ahead of No. 3 seed Asbury (Ky.) University and No. 4 seed Indiana University Southeast, who were both 6-2 RSC as well.

The championship gets started on Friday, April 23 with the quarterfinals at 8:30 a.m. No. 3 Asbury will face No. 6 seed Oakland City (Ind.) University, which was 3-5 RSC. No. 4 IU Southeast plays No. 5 Midway (Ky.) University (4-4 RSC) in the other quarterfinal matchup.

The semifinals are Friday at 1 p.m. with IU East getting the winner of IU Southeast-Midway and IU Kokomo facing the winner of Asbury-Oakland City.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 at 9:00 a.m. All matches will be played at Top Seed Tennis Club. The matches will be moved to the facilities' indoor courts in the event of inclement weather.

Fans are permitted to attend. All fans are asked to wear a mask while on the facility grounds. Fans should leave the gates in a timely manner at the completion of the match. If Friday's matches have to be moved indoors, fans will not be permitted indoors. If Saturday's matches are moved indoors, fans will be permitted with a reduced number of teams still in the tournament.

The NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship is May 18-22 at Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. The RSC Championship winner will earn the conference's automatic bid to NAIAs.
