Day 1 Recap: Midway leads RSC Women's Golf Championship thru 36 Holes

FLORENCE, Ind. -- After 36 holes played Monday at the 2021 River States Conference Women's Golf Championship, Midway (Ky.) University leads the field of eight teams at Belterra Golf Club. The Eagles opened up Monday's first round with a score of 314 to build a lead of 12 shots. Midway shot 324 in the afternoon round to bump the lead up to 14 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round of 18 holes.

The final round begins Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. ET with the tee times and pairings based on the team standings after 36 holes. Midway will be playing with Indiana University East and Asbury (Ky.) University once again, the second and third-place teams after Monday.

IU East shot two rounds of 326 and will start the final 18 holes 14 shots back of Midway. Asbury shot rounds of 330 and 336 and is another 14 shots behind IU East.

Through 36 holes, Oakland City (Ind.) University, Indiana University Kokomo and Brescia (Ky.) University are in fourth, fifth and sixth place and will play with each other for a second day in a row. University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and Point Park (Pa.) University round out the standings in seventh and eighth and will be paired together again.

Midway put four players in the Top 10 to build the lead through 36 holes. All of the Eagles' five players are in the top 13 spots with one round to go. The team score of 314 had three players in the 70s for the first round. That included Catherine Kelly (76-80) and Emilie Hill (76-83) tying for the 18-hole lead with opening 76s. Kelly ended the day in fourth place while Hill is in a tie for fifth. The Eagles have Jenna Lewis (79-80) also in the tie for fifth and Payton Schechter (83-81) in a tie for ninth.

IU East's Jo Wisecup and Asbury's Hannah McCrabb are tied for the individual lead after two rounds at 9-over par 153. Wisecup opened with an 80 but has the round of the tournament so far, a 1-over 73 in the second 18 that included five birdies. McCrabb started with a 78 and then fired a 3-over 75, including two birdies. She is the only player in field to shoot two rounds in the 70s.

Asbury's Faith Wiley (80-75) is two shots off the lead and in solo third at 11-over. Point Park's Joey Walz (79-80) is one of the three players tied for fifth.
