Rio Grande's Cress earns RSC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, Week
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- University of Rio Grande sophomore thrower Sierra Cress won the hammer throw and discus at the RSC Outdoor Championships to earn RSC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and thus also RSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week April 19-25.
Cress, from Greenville, Ohio, set an RSC meet record with her toss of 49.59 meters to win the hammer throw. That was within the NAIA minimum qualifying standard to get her to nationals if she had not already done so with a season-best throw of 49.64 meters already.
Cress won the discus with a throw of 39.39 meters. She scored points in four throws as she was fourth in the shot put at 11.12 meters and fifth in the javelin at 27.28 meters.
